JOB SUMMARY

The Entrepreneur in Residence provides on-site expertise and mentoring designed to help entrepreneurs transform their innovative ideas into successful new ventures.  This includes venture and opportunity assessment; team development; support in business plan and funding execution; and progress tracking.

This is a part-time position reporting to Director of the Arizona Center for Innovation.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Hold regular office hours (25 hours/week) on-site to meet with clients
  • Track client progress, deliverables, and accomplishments
  • Work with Client Services Manager to identify company training/workshop needs
  • Work with AzCI team to coordinate and facilitate external mentor support for clients
  • Work with AzCI team on events and follow-up activities as needed

PitchDay a Success for Arizona Center for Innovation Ventures

On Friday June 15th the Arizona Center for Innovation hosted Pitch Day, the final showcase of the new business ventures particpanting in the Mentored Launch program. During the event seven teams made a 3-minute pitch to the audience for funding, advisors, partners, or any other urgent need the team may have.

The following startup companies presented:

  • AAIR – Arizona Algae Integrated Raceway patented technology and system for increased algae production.
  • ArtsyTown is an arts and entertainment marketing company that develops smart phone technologies which actively connect local artists and musicians with fans.
  • Breakaway Media’s modular software system eMegaBook transforms eBooks into mega-performers with dynamic product placement in eBooks on multiple devices for the 70 million ebook readers in the U.S.
  • EquiSight is focused on revolutionizing the industry of horse racing by utilizing helmet camera technology and an online interactive experience that will allow users to “Ride the Race”.

The Cleantech Open runs the world’s largest accelerator. It provides entrepreneurs and technologists the resources needed to launch successful cleantech companies. The mission of the Cleantech Open is to find, fund, and foster entrepreneurs with big ideas that address today’s most urgent energy, environmental and economic challenges.

The Cleantech Open Accelerator & Competition consists of a number of key activities; extensive mentoring, training, business clinics, access to investors and capital, numerous opportunities to showcase to the media and the public, and the competition itself. Since its inception in 2006, the Cleantech Open has awarded over $5M in cash and services to support cleantech growth companies. The 581 participating companies of the Cleantech Open’s accelerator programs have raised more than $660 million in external capital.

Drug-benefits center to hire 400 in Tucson

A unit of health-care giant UnitedHealth Group plans to hire at least 400 people to staff a pharmacy-benefits customer-service center set to open later this year at the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park.

OptumRx, part of UnitedHealth’s Optum business group and the fourth-largest prescription-drug benefits manager in the nation, will open the center in an existing building at 9040 S. Rita Road. The building is undergoing renovations and is expected to be ready for occupancy by June, the company said.

Recruiting for the new customer-service positions will begin later this year, and the company expects to fully staff the new center by the end of 2013.
