Startup Tucson Hackathon – August 10th-11th at Spoke6

A Startup Weekend Tucson Pre-event - August 10th-11th

Join us Friday through Saturday for a code writing marathon in Tucson!
Form a team, pick a category, then code something new and exciting in 24 hours to win prizes and fame!

What’s it all about?

It’s about meeting and getting to know more of the local Tucson tech community while doing something fun! The Interweb is amazing, but it can’t compare to hanging out in person with a group of like-minded people. A hackathon is an exciting, fast pasted, stimulating event where you can make a crazy cool idea into something real!

What can you do in 24 hours?

Form a team of at least 2 people (must be present to win) and create something from start to finish. You could build a complete webapp, or a cool script, or a plugin/theme or feature for a larger application. You don’t have to create something huge, but finish it and have fun.

If you already have an idea, great! You can bring a description, specs, sketches, designs, webpage mockups, etc, but all coding should be done during the 24 hour event.

On Saturday, at 3PM sharp, we’ll start calling teams up to give a short presentation. Your team will have two minutes. The judges may ask a few questions, and then on to the next team!

Judges and attendees will rate the apps and award awesome prizes to the winners!

What Do I Need?

We will provide facilities, power, food, refreshments, and experts to help you code and write your application. Just bring your laptop, ideas, and enthusiasm to complete the mix.

When and Where?

The Startup Tucson Hackathon will take place over 24 hours starting at 4pm on Friday August 10th. It will be held in Spoke6 at 6th St. and 6th Ave.

Why?

We want to bring Tucson’s developers TOGETHER. Plain and simple. The internet goes only so far. The synergy that happens when coders get together at a hackathon is a unique, exciting, and beautiful thing. This is your chance to hack together that crazy idea you’ve had in the back of your mind. Make it happen!

General Schedule:

Friday August 10th

4PM – 7PM – Registration. Come and get your swag and badges early. Doors are open and coding can officially begin at 4pm.
7PM - Dinner & Brainstorming. We will host a feast and introduce the teams and get to know each other. Its about code, but its also about coding with each other!

8PM – Poker Planning – After brainstorming ideas, poker planning sessions will provide teams a structured way to get the juices flowing on the next day’s work.
9PM – Feel free to go home and relax…or for the young and full of energy Spoke6 will be open ALL NIGHT to let the coding juices flow.

Saturday August 11th

7AM – Breakfast is served

3PM – Presentation time! Time to show off the hard work you’ve put in the 23 hours! You’ll present your product quickly to our judges, who will give you feedback. The attendees and judges will vote on the best product and idea.
