McCorkle will head new tech ed district

ARIZONA DAILY STAR

A former Tucson Unified School District administrator has been appointed head of the county’s new Joint Technological Education District.

Mary Belle McCorkle, a former assistant superintendent of TUSD and the Sunnyside Unified School District and 12-year member of TUSD’s Governing Board, will take the place of Larry Williams, a retired TUSD administrator, as interim superintendent of the JTED.

Williams is recovering from a January automobile accident. His replacement is expected to be only temporary, said Tina Norton, chief financial officer of the Pima County School Superintendent’s Office.

The technological education district was approved by voters in November. As a centralized agency, it will enhance the ability of all Pima County high schools to offer vocational and technical classes. The district will be funded with an annual property tax of $5 per $100,000 of home valuation.
